Dynamic Connectionist Cognition
1977 - 1988
During Cognitive Dynamics from 1977 to 1988, the field moved decisively from symbolic, rule-based accounts toward neural-inspired, distributed models of cognition. Emphasis fell on distributed representations, parallel processing, and learning that emerges from experience, linking mental states to causal brain mechanisms. Methodologically, exemplar-based classification, competitive learning, and dynamic resonant processes foregrounded real-time adaptation and robustness in noisy environments.
